In 2006, this 1990 Cabriolet was unloved and left to rot under a tree in Skipton Yorkshire . The engine had been stripped by the previous owner and abandoned in the boot of the car  this was probably because one of the pistons was eaten away by one of the valves. The body work was extremely tatty and the roof had been cut.

The team at ASWR gave it a new lease of life... We began in the engine bay; We fitted a 2.5 litre M20 engine, then replaced the suspension and fitted ATE BMW original breaks all round. It took many weeks to decide a colour, but we chose BMW pure blue for a full colour change. We replaced the roof with mohair cloth hood, put crystal back lights in and we swapped the cloth interior for black leather seats. Then the waiting began to find original 16” Alpina alloy wheels and tyres.

The car flew through it’s MOT and had many short journeys. The longest journey that the car had is when we went to the ultimate BMW show at Santa Pod raceway in September 2007 which was 157 miles away. We exceeded the speed limit......

Then broke down!  one mile away from the track .(We got a friend) Chris who works for the AA who got us on our way (yes.. He was a very nice man!) We later discovered that we tripped out a fuel relay due to switching the car to sport then economy mode. Since then we have had no problems and she serves us well.

Accident and Emergency 

Yet again, we took pity on another car.... This 1990 318is arrived in 2007 after it had lost a fight with a double - decker bus! It’s condition was not critical, merely superficial... It had a dent on the boot and the spoiler had lifted. We thought that she deserved the opportunity to go out and fight another day. We looked in our store room for a suitable donor match and transplanted the parts to her. A full re-spray in diamond Schwartz black followed and then we replaced the interior for a black leather and swapped the 14 “ BBS cross spokes for 15”
